Wedding Venue and Event Center

History of The Bar 5

Welcome to Bar 5, an event venue rooted in Alaska’s homestead tradition and crafted by hand from the ground up. Named for the Bar 5 Ranch brand—a symbol brought north by five pioneering siblings who came to Alaska to homestead here from New Mexico in 1959. This space carries forward a legacy of family, craftsmanship, and simple frontier hospitality.

Set on 20 acres of gently sloping meadows, spruce forest, and blooming fireweed fields, Bar 5 offers unobstructed views of three iconic Cook Inlet volcanoes: Augustine, Redoubt, and Iliamna. A natural spring-fed creek flows beside the building, and moose wander through regularly, adding to the feeling of an authentically Alaskan place. Sunsets here are nothing short of spectacular.

The event center itself is a hand-built barn-style structure, crafted from lumber milled onsite. Inside, massive 8x8 post-and-beam timbers create a warm, rustic atmosphere, while the exterior features metal siding styled to look like vintage barn wood. The main hall offers 3,200 square feet (64’ x 50’) of open floor space with hydronically heated concrete floors for year-round comfort—ideal for winter weddings and events. A 20’ x 64’ heated outdoor patio expands the space and connects guests to the landscape.

Upstairs, a 1,020 sq. ft. bridal and groom suite area (17’ x 30’, divided into two rooms) provides private, comfortable preparation space with elevated views.

The venue includes

  • Capacity for up to 240 guests

  • Commercial, approved kitchen suitable for any caterer or restaurant

  • Fully ADA-accessible bathrooms

  • Year-round availability

  • Ample level ground for tents, outdoor ceremonies, or activities

The aesthetic is farmhouse rustic with simple, warm handcrafted touches that honor Alaska’s homestead spirit. While weddings are the primary focus, Bar 5 is designed for versatility—hosting birthday parties, art classes, community workshops, live music, family reunions, retreats, and celebrations of all kinds.

Just a short drive from Homer, access is easy:
From Homer, take Hwy 1 north, turn right on Diamond Ridge Rd, then left on Belnap. Follow Belnap to Kay Ct, turn right, and Bar 5 is located on the second left off Kay Ct—only about 1/3 mile from paved road.

Bar 5 is a place where handcrafted Alaskan heritage meets modern comfort—a venue built with intention, meant to bring people together in a landscape that truly feels magical.

"We are planning our wedding and are excited for the soon to open Bar 5 wedding venue. We can't wait to host our friends and family there. One HUGE selling point is the indoor heated capacity of the venue as well as the outdoor patio space. We can rest easy knowing that rain or shine we can host the entire event indoors warm and out of the elements, or open the barn doors and enjoy the outdoors as well."
